Money from blogging

You might have heard people talking about writing blogs and making some extra money. Today I am going to share my experience of earning money by blogging. There are many websites that provide free blogging, but I will talk about www.blogger.com (owned by Google) because this is what I have been using for past two years.

You can sign up for a free blog space within minutes. Now the question is how you make money by having a free blog. Of course, there is no free lunch. The actual source of money is Google's Adsense program. You can publish google ads on your blog and anytime when somebody clicks on the ads, you will be paid. The idea is Google gets money from the companies whose ads you publish in your blog, and it pays you a part of that. There is no fixed per-click rate; you can get from 5 cents to $10 (may be more) for one click, depending upon the ads. Wow, doesn't it seem an easiest way of earning money? But it is not that easy. You will not get paid if you click on your ads, or ask somebody to click on them. Google has got a powerful tracking mechanism to identify any false clicks. If it finds one single false click, your account may be closed forever.

So the good way of doing this is to be honest, and work hard in writing quality articles on your blog and attract traffic towards it. Once you have something important in your blog that people want to know, you will start getting traffic, and valid clicks on Google Ads. You can post the link of your blog on various social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, etc so that you friends can visit it, and provide comments/feedback. I have been running a blog on PIC microcontrollers (http://pic16f628a.blogspot.com) since last year, and it took me around 6 months to get a reasonable number of visitors everyday. Today, I get more than 100 visitors everyday, and I make some free money from it.
Here are my suggestions:
  • While writing a blog, choose a topic that you know about and are really good at it. Originality matters a lot in this.
  • Publish your blog link on various social networking sites and discussion forums.
  • Submit your blog address to various search engine archives.
  • Keep patience, continue writing, get traffic, and don't ever ask anybody to click on Google Ads on your blog.
  • Choose an appropriate location for putting Google ads on blog. The placement of ads is very important.
Good luck!
